Nurture Life Ready Meals Review
Usually, food subscription services come and go in my home. Living in a household of five there is either not enough food in a family meal or we order meals to serve just the parents and need to make an additional meal for the children. Honestly, I would prefer to always find a meal solution for the children first. Solving the food dilemma for grown-ups is always easier.
Enter, Nurture Life! This subscription service brings quality nutritious children’s meals for every age group from ten-month babies to teenagers.
For our first Nurture Life review, we ordered 2 cold lunches and 4 heat and eat meals.
Children can be picky and mine are no different. When I ordered the meals to introduce to my children I let them be involved in picking out their choices to get them excited.
When the box arrived we started with the cold lunch boxes. We ordered the chicken meatball sliders and the build-your-own pizzas. My children loved them! Both meals came with fruit (one had apple slices and the other pear slices).
The sauce for the sliders and the pizza both had vegetables creamed into it. My children had no idea! They even commented on how good the sauce was.
After the cold lunches, we decided to try the prepared meals that are designed for dinner. We ordered the following in our box:
- Chicken bites with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans
- Mini pupusas with fiesta corn and zucchini
- Chicken and vegetable dumplings with edamame
- Chicken meatballs with pasta and vegetables
- The favorites were the chicken meatballs with pasta and vegetables and the chicken and vegetable dumplings with edamame. All the meals were very good though and the children cleaned their plates. As a Mom, I rarely see a cleaned plate by all my children.
For our second Nurture Life review, Nurture Life sent us a box of their latest recipes for toddlers, kids, teens, and families. It was a lot of food, but we were up for the challenge 🙂
There are five new Nurture Life baby meals including Oatmeal Protein Bite & Sweet Potato, Mini Falafel, Carrot & Rice, Mac & Cheese With Peas, Paneer, English Pea & Carrot, and Chicken, Sweet Potato & Waffle.
These finger food meals are met for babies 10 months to 24 months and are perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plus, their containers make them super portable and easy to store in the fridge.
And while our son is 9 years old, we decided to try a few of these meals and share the others with friends that have a toddler. My first thought when I opened the Chicken, Sweet Potato & Waffle was that it looks really fresh and the waffle is absolutely adorable.
And it tasted as you would expect, white meat chicken, roasted sweet potato, and a cinnamon waffle.
We tried the toddler, kids, and teen/adults meals for lunch and dinner over the course of the week. The new meals, which come in all portion sizes, include Breakfast Sandwich With Roasted Potato Medley, Salmon Slider With Rainbow Carrots & Green Beans, Cheeseburger Mac & Cheese With Butternut Squash, Tortellini Alfredo With Asparagus, Japanese-Inspired Chicken & Vegetable Noodles, and the Butter Chicken With Peas, Rice & Mini Naan.
We love that Nurture Life meals are available in various sizes, from baby to teen/adult, so that you can pick the portion size that will fit the meal and appetite of your child.
Toddler meals are designed for children ages 1-4 years. My son, 9, could easily eat 2 of these for lunch or dinner.
He loved the Breakfast Sandwich With Roasted Potato Medley and thought that the potatoes needed a bit of salt and pepper.
I tried the Butter Chicken With Peas, Rice & Mini Naan kids meal for lunch and absolutely loved it. The flavor of the butter chicken was wonderful and I mixed the rice and peas into the sauce and then dipped the naan as well.
The Cheeseburger Mac & Cheese was a huge hit with a sweet taste from the butternut squash and rich creamy cheese and beef sauce to top it off. Yum!
My son also tried the Japanese-Inspired Chicken & Vegetable Noodles in the teen/adult portion for dinner and it was more than enough for him. He loved the grilled chicken and noodles and even ate the veggies hidden in the dish.
He did add a little soy sauce to jazz up with Japanese flavor but loved this healthy version of take-out.
We rounded out lunch for the week with the Tortellini Alfredo With Asparagus and the Salmon Slider With Rainbow Carrots & Green Beans. The tortellini had a wonderful, rich alfredo sauce that we loved, though the asparagus needed some salt and pepper. Same for the green beans with the Salmon Slider.
The Salmon Slider was my son’s least favorite meal from the order.
UPDATE: Family meals are no longer available.
Finally, we heated up a Family main dish of Grilled Chicken Au Jus, and a Family side of Mushroom & Truffle Ravioli for dinner one night after my son’s lacrosse practice. We both loved the chicken and found it moist and flavorful when combined with the au jus.
The mushroom and truffle ravioli were a flavor surprise and more complex than I anticipated. Truffle is a flavor that you either love or hate and can easily overwhelm a dish. This was the first time my son had truffles and thought it was so-so.
I loved the ravioli and thought they were delicious.
Nurture Life Ready Meals Review: Tips
- Portion size increases with age. If you have kids who eat more or less order accordingly. For example, you may have a 10-year-old that is a big eater and may want to order teen meals.
- Meals will be best if eaten within one week from the delivery date (check the use-by date right on the packaging!), and they can be frozen up to 90 days
- Don’t be afraid to add a little seasoning – salt, pepper, soy sauce, butter, etc. to add a punch and enhance the natural flavors of the veggies
Nurture Life Ready Meals Review: Snacks
Nurture Life now has healthy snacks for toddlers and kids. Mighty Bites are plant-based snack balls that taste like cookie dough but made with ingredients like organic oats, chickpeas, sunflower seed butter, and dried fruit for sweetness. Best of all Nurture Life says that they “contain 78% less sugar than the leading snacks”. Most do contain milk and soy and all are free from gluten.
Mighty Bites come in 4 flavors including Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Double Chocolate Chip, and Snickerdoodle. Each order of Mighty Bites contains 5 servings, each serving is 2 bites and costs $7.99.
They are great for snack time, a quick breakfast on the go, or dessert.
Nurture Life Menu
Many items on the Nurture Life menu are similar throughout the age ranges with the portion size increasing with age. For instance, you can order a meal that consists of chicken meatballs and a starch from 10 months of age up to a teenager.
The meatballs for little ones are broken into bite-size pieces and are served with small-sized pasta, while the meatballs for the teenager are served with whole wheat pasta and vegetables.
There are also menu items for the picky eaters as well as some “breakfast for dinner” options.
- Baby Stage 3 Finger Foods: Age recommendation: 10 – 24 months; Serving size: 1 cup of food, representing 4oz – 8oz net weight
- Toddler Meals: Age recommendation: 1- 4 years; Serving size: 6.3oz – 7.5oz net weight
- Kid Meals: Age recommendation: 5 – 12 years; Serving size: 7.8oz – 10oz net weight
Nurture Life Ready Meals Review: Bottom Line
Nurture Life will be a staple food subscription in my household. These meals will especially be useful for quick lunches, date nights, and with our various dinner times due to extra-curricular activities and sports.
We love that Nurture Life has a variety of meals and portion sizes that fit the ever-changing tastes and appetites of our family.
And while the cost can add up for households with multiple kids, this is true for any prepared meal delivery service. There aren’t many cold lunch meals and we hope to see more in the future as they are great for school, camp, or on the go.
Compared to other toddler and kids prepared meal services Nurture Life offers a nice variety of meals and has larger portion sizes for older kids. The price point is on the higher end and we recommend paying close attention to the portion size when comparing options.
I’m grateful for discovering this option when I really need a quick meal that is a healthy alternative.
